LINDIE LOU IS A SURVIVOR

A%20Great%20Pair%21.jpg Lindie Lou was burned terribly by some type of acid that burned down to the bone. Lindie Lou asked me, "Am I going to get new legs and will people ever stop noticing them?"

BIRDIE FOUND ON THE STREET

birdie_2.jpg "I was hit by a car and when I was on the side of the road these big birds kept flying down to me and poking me. They were going to kill me. It was really scary. Then you came. You are nice, but you are strange. I have never seen one of you up close before."

This sweet little bird died from the car trauma. May her spirit soar!

MOSS FINDS JOY IN HIS NEW HOME

moss.staffa.jpg
THIS WAS WRITTEN BY MOSS'S PERSON:

Moss was adopted into his forever home in Aug 2008 from a Border Collie rescue... Here is part of his reading in Nov 2008 - There is soo much to this story but these are some exerpts:
Laura asked him "why are you down and not joyful?"
Moss; I don’t know how to be joyful. I wonder when I will go to my next home. I am afraid of doing something wrong and being punished again.

Laura said Moss had always been out doors, never a family pet. He is still trying to grasp the concept of being out of the elements and being a family dog.

Laura asked him why doesn’t he play?
Moss: I don’t play because I got hit for playing and chewing a stick. I was also grabbed by his collar and hit with the stick. They also threw a can of coins at me when he was bad. (He still plays with himself - but likes to race around the back yard with me now - his Mom)

M: you mean they are going to keep me forever?
L; Yes
M: And I’ll never see sheep again? (was formerly being trained as a sheep herder before rescue)
L: No
M: Can they give me cheese?
L: Yes (And he loves it as a training aid - or just because)

THIS RATTLESNAKE DOESN'T WANT TO FORGIVE

myrattlesnake.jpg"Get away from me or I will get you back!" I ran over this rattlesnake on a back country road. My friend (who drove a different car) helped me get the snake off the road. This rattlesnake knew that I was the driver of the car. When I would come close to him he would get angrier and tell me he was going to get me back.

GEORGIA NEEDS A HOME

georgia%2072-1.jpg

Georgia is a 2 yr. old spayed female blond Shepherd mix, 59 lbs. She is great with dogs and very shy with people. Her first owner was a dog hoarder. There were over a hundred dogs at her home. Georgia is now awaiting a person and home at DAWG in Santa Barbara. Their website is http://www.sbdawg.net. They are located at 5480 Overpass Rd.
Santa Barbara, CA 93111. Please take a trip and go and meet her.

Here is an interview that I have done with Georgia. She is a very special dog. She is smart, attentive, and comes to people for safety. If you decide to give Georgia a try she comes with a free dog training/pet psychic session. She needs someone who is patient and is willing to give her time to settle in.

Laura, pet psychic: Can you tell me a little bit about where you came from?

Georgia: There were a lot of dogs. They would die often and we never knew when it was our time to die. We knew that death started with a terrible pain in the stomach. Sometimes a dog would think it was dying and then it would have babies.

L: How did you handle living with so many dogs?

G: All the mean dogs slept in the middle of the day so that was the best time to play. At night and in the early morning I had a really good place to hide. When they would feed us. A man would fling an open big bag of kibble over his head. I would wait until the kibble slid under a chair and in a corner. I would eat there.

L: How do you feel about people now?

G: I love people. Though I am really scared they are going to pull me close and hurt me. I know that some people would never do that. I love to be stroked. It makes me feel like I am safe. I liked to be scratched behind my ears. I love it when people tell me I am good. I want to learn more, but I am scared. I always had to learn myself. It would be nice if a person could teach me something. I also want to learn to play with a ball. I would love a person who doesn’t get upset if I get scared. I think they need patience. Oh and I don’t want them to get scared of me because I am scared. It is funny how that happens.

L: Anything else you want to say?

G: Sometimes other dogs bark and I do not agree with it. Sometimes they bark to be mean and that is inappropriate. It is time for me to leave the shelter. It is not that I don’t like it here. I just don’t feel like I belong here anymore. I can feel there is a very special person that will love me and understand me. If you tell people about me, tell them I want to change and be brave. Tell them I know that having the desire to be a companion is important. I am ready to have a home.

STORM'S SCARY DREAM

stormbeach.jpgStorm said to me one morning, "Mom, I had the scariest dream. I was a man on a sailboat and I harpooned a big whale. It was so sad. It made an eerie noise and dropped into the sea. Mom, I didn't even know there were such big creatures in the sea."

SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA * TEA FIRE

1-montecito_wildfire.jpg

I lived in the hills of Montecito before I lived in Ojai. It was in those hills where I learned how to study canine pack behavior. I had a professional dog walking business, which consists of filling my Jeep Cherokee with six to eight dogs for a three-hour hike in the mountains. I did this twice a day six days a week. I have a dog and cat buried in those hills. Now I am there every Tuesday & Thursday morning talking to client’s pets before I head north on the 101. I know those backcountry / Riviera roads like I know the streets of downtown Ojai. The Thursday afternoon the fire broke out, I got lost in those Montecito hills. I cursed at myself. Ten, twenty, thirty minutes and I was still scanning mailboxes for the number of my clients home. No cell service. I pulled over, took a breath and admired the oaks, pines, and the spectacular view of Montecito, Santa Barbara Harbor, the ocean and the islands. I thought at the time that Spirit wanted me to savor that moment and not be so concerned about time. Two hours later as I drove home on the 150 the fire broke out. Most of the road I was lost on is devastated to charred ruins. Amidst burnt homes and land is 27-acre estate that has been in my friend’s family for close to 90 years. Her land was not even slightly singed by the fire. She has two German Shepherds. Here is their (Sierra and Major’s) view of the fire.

sierra%20lanning.jpgSierra: "Mom was gone far away getting her eye surgery and I started to smell anger in the air. It frightened me so I went outside. There was a flock of crows that flew over me. They were scared. I started to see the smoke before I smelled it. I heard sirens and then my caretaker came. I had never seen him so worried. He was looking around and wandering what he should take. He couldn’t think straight. Normally he is very together. The smoke started to burn my eyes and he got Major and me in the car. There were other men turning on the sprinklers. I didn’t understand why they wanted to water the plants. Watering is on a strict schedule. Days went by. People thought our house burnt down, but every time I thought about it I saw it standing. I asked the bobcat if he was ok and he said that he was but the property was filled with all types of animals that he had never seen on the property before. He said there was a no chasing or hunting rule. Which was hard for him because he didn’t eat for days."

major%20lanning.jpgMajor: "I knew something bad was going to happen when my mom left us for her surgery. I didn’t know it was going to be the fire. I saw the smoke and I thought someone better call mom and tell her not to come home. I was trying to speak to her from a distance to warn her. You know I wasn’t that scared because Mitch (human) was there with us and I was so worried before the fire broke out that when it did I thought this is what was making me nervous. I never thought our house would burn down because our property is the home of many angels and the Buddha (larger than life wooden statue). He comes alive at night and takes bathes in our ponds. Many people pray to him. I knew he would take care of us. This property is what makes my mom’s heart strong. I want to say that I am so sorry for all those people and animals that lost their homes. They should come and put flowers on our Buddha’s lap and he will help them feel strong. I feel their sorrow and their devastation in the wind. I can smell it like Sierra. It makes you feel really sad and really grateful at the same time."

milo%20the%20cat.jpg He was rescued out of a house that had over 24 cats. He says, "It is better to have one cat than many so you can pay attention to the one." INTERVIEW WITH BEAN THE BUNNY

BEAN%20SITTING.jpgThis is Bean. I found her hopping down the sidewalk of a main road. I was unable to locate her owners so Bean traveled cross country on an airplane to live with my friend.

Laura: What was your life like before your present home?

Bean: I use to live in a cage. It was a hutch in the yard. Many days and nights would go by before I would see my people. When my people came to see me they were nice to me. They would hug me and kiss me. I loved them.
My hutch was always dirty. It was hard on my feet because I would have to walk on wire and pee and poop through the wire. The wire was always disgusting. Sometimes my people would forget to give me water, but other times they would bring me carrots and lettuce.
One day, I opened the latch to my hutch with my teeth...

INTERVIEW WITH PIT BULL DAISY MAE

 Videos, Movies, Pet Profiles, Dogster

What is it like being a Pit Bull?

"I truly like being a pit bull, but not always. When I was in the shelter, I heard someone saying that all dogs like me will bite. I would never bite. They also say that shelters put us to death more than any other breed. I don’t know if that is true but that scared me.

I like my body because I feel strong even when I am shy inside."

Do you think people treat you differently because you are a Pit Bull?

“Oh, yes. Most people have fearful eyes when they look at me. I use to get scared when
