NOVA (white golden mix) "it is so amazing to have my family all together, even the horses. The trees are so tall that they make me dizzy when i look up at them. Our house has stairs and smells like the outdoors. I wish you were here"

LULA (mexican mutt) "I miss Ojai, but there is something about the air here that is healing to the family. I am happy to hear dad's music again and sniff all the different smells. I saw a skunk and he told me i better stay away or he would hurt me. You would have been so proud of me. I respected his wishes and then he went under the deck"

Dear Laura,

We have a wonderful lopped eared bunny named Addie. She hops over to the children and allows everyone to pet her. The only problem we have with her is that she bites us when we pick her up. This is a behavior that seems out of character for her. Why do you think she is doing this?

WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING AN OJAI MOUNTAIN BEAR?

"We dont know what it is like living anywhere else, but i can tell you there is plenty of food and safe places to sleep. Our mom is teaching us about dangerous humans but we think they smell sweet. There is one that we watch often and she moves like a graceful bird. She also talks to the trees like we do."

AFTER A LOT OF WORK, MAGGIE HAS LEARNED THAT SHE SHOULD NOT CHASE CATS.

maggie says, "i didnt know that such small beings could be my friends. i admire how they flick their tails. I didnt know that they dont like to be chased. I use to like to watch how fast they can run and how high they can jump. Smokey (cat in picture) told me that he doesnt like to be chased because it hurts his heart. I like how he is now willing to be my friend"

Laura: Michael and Micah what was war like?

Michael: The hardest part of where I came from was loosing my family and smelling burning flesh. Everything I knew to be safe became dangerous. Peoples’ eyes turn cold and the birds go silent.

Micah: I miss my children and the smell of my Lebanese mom cooking. I miss the smell of the earth and the laughter of my family.

Laura: How did you survive?

KELLY FREDERICK HAS LOST HER BELOVED CAT SOLOMON. HE WAS ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD WHEN HE PASSED AWAY.

I spoke to him in spirit and asked him if he knew why the Great Spirit took his life so young.

I want to say that I love to skateboard. I dream of skateboarding all the time.

I am very smart. Way smarter than what anyone thinks. I like it when I eat hamburgers. It makes me skate better.

I like to go fast because it makes me feel like everyone stops and watches me. That is the best feeling and to feel the wind in my face. I want my kid to be able to teach me tricks. I want to be able to jump off the board and then back on really quickly, but I don’t know if I can run as fast as the board. I want a wider and longer ramp with obstacles I can weave through. Can they do that for me?
